What we're trying to achieve...
Background Nicholroi Charbrays was founded in 1989 when the Nichols family relocated to the South Burnett district. Over the past 30 years we have bred Poll Hereford and Simmental cattle in the Brisbane Valley, and just on fifteen years ago we realised that 'Charbray' was the breed to take the cattle industry into a profitable future. The year 2000 saw us expand our stud with the leasing of an ex-dairy property in Kilkivan, which was managed by our youngest daughter and son-in-law. This move enabled us to substantially increase our cow herd, with our breeders at Kilkivan and our sale bulls and weaners at Proston. The past twelve months, however, has seen our stud expand even further with the relocation to the Monto district. 'Tukamuna', an irrigation property on the Burnett Highway just outside of Monto, gives us the opportunity to pasture feed our bulls rather than using grain.
Breeding Objectives Our main objective is to breed quality Charbray & Charolais bulls and females, which at a young age are growthy and early maturing and will go on to breed progeny which will produce excellent results for commercial cattlemen.
Show Success During 1999 our show team, comprising of two bulls and two females, won broad ribbons at Proston, Murgon, Goomeri, Nanango, Blackbutt, Esk, Toogoolawah, and Gatton shows. At the Queensland Royal Brisbane Exhibition we achieved Grand Champion Female, and First in the Breeders Group. A highlight for that year was winning the Charbray Society's 'TARTRUS TROPHY'.
